As for the plot... Recon is a story about a group of soldiers who are called back to do a job they've already done. The mission they're sent out on is essentially to follow a ghost leader, who is a former leader of their group. The ghost leader is supposed to lead them in exchange for some kind of favour or reward, and they follow him in order to get the job done. But of course they've done all this already, so they're just being sent out to do it again. The rest of the film is about how the soldiers cope with the realisation that they are still being sent out on missions with memories of things they've done on previous missions still fresh in their minds. This in turn leads to them re-evaluating the mission they're in and re-evaluating their attitude to the mission and the other soldiers. In the end, when they learn that the ghost leader is in fact a traitor, they must decide whether to take revenge on him, or if they're going to have their revenge on themselves for letting him get away. This is a compelling setup and I was fairly interested to see how the script would be played out. Unfortunately, it doesn't work. Let me explain... the film's lead character, Private Asch, is played by Michael Peña, and he does a good job. He's an extremely likeable, sweet and innocent character, and by the film's ending, you'll feel an enormous amount of sympathy for him and the other soldiers. The problem is that the script portrays the events of the film in such a way that none of it makes any sense, and so the audience is left utterly bewildered and confused by what's happening around them. This can also be said for the entire film, but let me just concentrate on the key characters here. The ghost leader is portrayed by Radek Bruna, and he has a really charismatic and natural manner about him. He's a very good actor, and the film shows this through his performance, as he is very easy to like and relate to. As well as Bruna, there are five other soldiers in the film. They are: Private Asch, Private James, Private Jones, Private Parks, and Private Andrews. I'm going to mention each of them in turn. Asch is played by Michael Peña.
