OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss men's basketball team will hold its first intra-squad scrimmage on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 10:00 a.m. at Tad Smith Coliseum. The scrimmage is open to the public, and admission is free.
Many questions will be answered. Can the Rams capitalize on playing in their home stadium, something few teams get to experience? Will 2020 No. 1 overall pick Joe Burrow and 2021 first-round pick Ja'Marr Chase cap off a dream season with the ultimate win? Will Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp put on a show and then rely on Aaron Donald to hold it down on defense? Will Bengals kicker Evan McPherson win another game on a last-second field goal? Can Odell Beckham Jr. shine on the big stage and solidify his comeback? The possibilities with this game are endless. And if these two teams show off what made them great the entire season, we should be in for a treat Sunday.

"Right now, we have a couple of freshmen (Effner and Dennis) leading the way, and we need our older guys to step up."We are wrestling some good competition - Michigan State is very talented, but I know our kids are tougher than this."Cleveland State will remain idle from competition until the end of December when they travel to Evanston, Ill. for the Midlands Invitational on Dec. 29-30.Final Results157 Marcus Effner decision Matt McCarty, 7-4165 David Gilkey fall Bryan Harney, 0:37174 Matt Klinger decision Greg Goidosik, 7-4184 Joe Williams major decision Ron Howard, 11-3197 Jeff Clemens decision Joe Phillips, 6-2285 Joe Dennis decision Max Lossen, 3-1 SV1125 Nick Simmons fall Joe Wornoff, 3:36133 Ryan Froese fall Matt Shultz, 3:36141 Andy Simmons decision Mike Hurley, 5-0149 Darren McKnight major decision Ryan Hurley, 16-7 FacebookTwitterEmailPrintAddthis Cleveland State University 2121 Euclid Ave. Cleveland, OH 44115 csuvikings.com #GoVikes Notice of Non-Discrimination / Privacy Policy / Opt-Out Policy

With the continued play into late March, Kieger continues to chase Marquette's all-time assist list. The senior point guard has tallied 686 helpers in her career and needs just four to become the school's all-time leader. Joan Pitrof '90 holds the mark, at 689.
Because education was highly valued in her household, Gladys Williams attended elementary school in segregated Warren County and continued her education at Southern Christian Institute High School and Junior College, a mission boarding school in Edwards, Mississippi. Despite most of the students being boarders, Mrs. Williams lived at home and rode the Continental Trailways bus to school each day to earn an associate degree.
Nov. 26, 2004Complete Release in PDF FormatDownload Free Acrobat ReaderBRIEFLYThanks to a 19-0 run to start the game, the Loyola Marymount University men's basketball team earned an 83-51 win over Northern Colorado on Wednesday to start the season 2-0. They will continue their two-game road swing when they head east to take on UC Riverside (1-2) on Saturday, Nov. 27 at 7 p.m. The game can be heard live on the Lions' Audio Network.OUT OF THE GATESThe Lions ran their record to 2-0 in the early campaign for the third straight season under fifth-year head coach Steve Aggers. It is the first time the Lions have started three straight seasons 2-0 since the early 1950s. Scotty McDonald led the Lions to a 2-0 start with wins over Arizona State and USC in 1949. McDonald then led the Lions to a 2-0 start in 1950 and a 3-0 start in 1951. In 1952 Edwin Powell's squad played their first six games at home and won them all to start 6-0. William Donovan then took over the program as the Lions started 3-0 in 1953, 2-0 in 1954 and 2-0 in 1955. The 5-0 start by the Lions last season came one game shy of the mark set by Powell and the 1952-53 squad 52 years ago.A LOOK AT GAME #3For the second straight game the Lions will take on an opponent they faced a year ago. LMU will head to UC Riverside to take on the Highlanders of the Big West Conference. Last season the Lions earned a 59-53 win at Gersten Pavilion to start the season on Nov.. 21, 2003. LMU jumped out to an 11-point lead at the break and held on in a defensive battle for the win. LMU's defense was at its best, holding the Highlanders to just 41 percent shooting from the field and 15 percent from the three-point line. Chris Ayer had eight points and 12 rebounds in the win and Sherman Gay (now playing in the NBDL) led all scorers with 15 points. UC Riverside enters the game with a 1-2 record and are led by Vili Morton with 13.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. This is just the fourth meeting between the two teams as the Lions hold a 2-1 edge in the series, winning both games at home. Last year's meeting was the first since the teams played a home-and-home series in 1977 (in Los Angeles) and 1978 (in Riverside).TRADEMARK DThe Lions have been one of the better defensive teams over the last several seasons, leading the league in steals the last two. They have been at it again in the first two games of the 2004-05 campaign, earning back-to-back games with at least 11 steals. They had 11 steals in the opener against Monmouth, which led to 22 turnovers and 24 points of those turnovers. In the win over UNC on Wednesday, the Lions had 12 steals, creating 19 turnovers that turned into 25 points. In the two games combined, they have 23 steals, created 41 turnovers that have earned the Lions offense 49 points.WELCOME BACKThe Lions welcomed back the services of redshirt sophomore Brandon Worthy and junior John Haywood, both of whom missed all or most of last season due to major hand injuries. Worthy, an honorable mention All-WCC selection in 2002-03, missed all of last season and Haywood played in just 11 games before missing the year. Both were back in action in the season opener and gave the Lions an athletic presence. Worthy did it at both ends of the court as he played in a team-high 30 minutes. He finished with nine points, going 4-for-8 including a three-pointer, just the fourth of his career. He led the team with five steals, six rebounds and was tied for the team high with three assists. Haywood was second on the team with 28 minutes, scoring seven points with two rebounds. The both helped the Lions in game two, as Worthy scored 11 points with two assists and two steals in 20 minutes while Haywood had four points and five rebounds in 19 minutes in the win over Northern Colorado.LAST TIME OUTFrom the tip-off, the Loyola Marymount University men's basketball team took control to defeat Northern Colorado 83-51 in a non-conference game at Butler-Hancock Hall on Wednesday night in Greeley, Colo. The Lions shot out to a 19-0 lead and did not allow Northern Colorado to score until the 13:58 mark of the first half as they dominated from the start. LMU led by as many as 38 and got the entire roster into the game as they earn their largest win since an 88-55 victory over Sacramento State on Nov. 25, 2002. As they did in the season opener, the Lions used their defense to set-up early baskets. The Lions jumped to a 48-26 at the half and earned eight steals and scored 17 points on turnovers. For the game they finished with 12 steals and forced 19 turnovers by the Bears to score 25 points on the break. Leading the Lions was sophomore Matthew Knight with a career high 20 points. He had set his previous high with 14 against UNC a year ago. Knight added seven rebounds as sophomore Brandon Worthy added 11 points and Charles Brown with 10. The Lions had 11 players score as both Wes Wardrop and Damian Martin had six assists. The Lions finished the game earning 20 assists on 30 field goals. LMU finished the game hitting 50.8 percent (30-for-59) from the floor while holding UNC to just 34.7 percent (17-for-49). The Lions also went 7-for-13 from the three-point line (53.8 percent), giving them back-to-back games with seven three-pointers. The Lions had only two games with seven or more all of last season, hitting seven in the win over Cal State Fullerton (Dec. 30, 2003) and eight against Gonzaga (Feb. 7, 2004), both on the road.FROM COACH"We did a great job in taking control of the game early," said Head Coach Steve Aggers, who has led to a 2-0 start for the third straight season. "We were able to get our offense into a good flow early and then our defense really set the tone the entire game. We executed well and we showed signs of becoming a mature team as we did what a good team needs to do on the road against a Division I opponent. Good teams win the games they are favored to win.GAME #2 NOTESSophomore Brandon Worthy scored 342 points (11.0 ppg) in his freshman season in 2002-03. He ranked fourth all-time among freshman at LMU in both points and points per game. His 11 points against the Bears is his first double figure game since 10 against Saint Mary's on March 1, 2003.Vitor Boccardo and Jon Ziri made their LMU debuts against the Bears and both got into the scoresheet. Ziri hit his first LMU field goal with 3:21 remaining to make it 80-44 and then on the next defensive stand, Boccardo earned a block with 3:02 remaining. Ziri also earned a trip to the free throw line, going 1-for-2.The 32-point loss to the Lions equaled the worse loss for UNC in Butler-Hancock Hall when they fell 94-62 against Nebraska-Omaha on Jan. 9, 2003. UNC has not defeated an NCAA Division I opponent since Dec. 2, 1986 when they defeated Colorado State 56-54.EARLY IMPRESSIONTransfer Adoyah Evans-Miller became the second player under Head Coach Steve Aggers at LMU to score 10 or more points in their LMU debut. Evans-Miller, a transfer from Miami-Dade College, finished Saturday's game with 14 points. He finished the game going 4-for-12 from the field, hitting 2-for5 from the three-point line and 4-for-5 from the charity stripe. The other player to score double digits in an LMU debut under Aggers was sophomore Brandon Worthy. As a true freshman in the 2002-03 season, Worthy set a freshman record with 24 points in a win over Loyola-Chicago on Nov. 22, 2002.HALF A CENTURYThe Lions 52 points in the second half against Monmouth was the first 50-point half since the second game of the 2003-04 season when the Lions scored 50 in the win over Cal State Northridge. It was also the most point in a single half since they scored 56 in a 90-77 win over Pepperdine on Feb. 3, 1999. They just missed it again with 48 in the first half against Northern Colorado. The 83 total points in the back-to-back games are the most in a regulation game since the Lions put up 86 in a 15-point win over Portland on Feb. 6, 2003.NON-CONFERENCEWith the 2-0 start in non-conference this season, the Lions are now 11-4 against non-conference opponents over the last two seasons. Monmouth, who won the Northeastern Conference last season, is the second opponent the Lions have played from that conference. They defeated Central Connecticut State University in the Mohegan Sun Classic over Thanksgiving a year ago.ROCKY MOUNTAIN ROAD TRIPThe trip to Northern Colorado was the third time in five seasons the Lions headed to the Rocky Mountain state. With the win, the Lions improve to 2-3 when playing in the state of Colorado and 7-3 all-time against opponents from the state. In the first season under Head Coach Steve Aggers, the Lions took on the University of Colorado and last year LMU traveled to Denver. All-time the Lions are 1-2 vs. Colorado, 3-1 vs. Colorado State, 1-0 vs. Denver and 2-0 vs. Northern Colorado.CHARTING HISTORY The 2004-05 season could be a historical one for the only senior on the Lions' roster, Charles Brown. The Hercules, Calif., native has now played in 91 career games as a Lion. He is looking to become just the 17th player in 90-plus years of LMU basketball to appear in more than 100 games in a Lion uniform. With the longevity, Brown is also climbing into the career record books. He could become just the fifth player in school history score 1,000 career points and earn 400 or more assists. Entering the UC Riverside game he has 812 career points and 313 assists. Last season he had 334 points and 111 assists. He would join an elite list of Terrell Lowery (1988-92), Keith Smith (1982-86), Enoch Simmons (1985-89) and Jim Williamson. There have been 26 players in LMU history to score at least 1,000 career points. Brown is currently seventh all-time in career assists with 313.MORE CAREER MARKS Junior Charles Brown led the West Coast Conference in steals for the second straight season as he added to his career total with a league-leading 58 in the 2003-04 campaign. He became the first player in eight years to lead the WCC in steals back-to-back seasons. He was the first Lions to lead the conference in steals since Haywood Eaddy did it in 1997-98. His four steals against Pepperdine (Feb. 21) replaced Hank Gathers for eighth all-time in LMU history and his two against Saint Mary's (Feb. 26) replaced Keith Smith for seventh all-time. He started the 2004-05 campaign with six steals in two games, giving him 145 in his career. He had a season-high against Northern Colorado (11-24-04) of four and now needs five more to tie Jeff Fryer (150) for sixth all-time. Brown's 61 in 2003 ranked sixth best in a single season in LMU history and his 55 in 2004 was 11th best all-time. He had 20 in his first season.GRAND THEFT In four seasons under Head Coach Steve Aggers, the Lions have had some of the most prolific steal leaders in freshman history at LMU. Last season Damian Martin set the all-time freshman record with 44 steals as he was named to the West Coast Conference All-Freshman team. He broke the record of fellow teammate Brandon Worthy, who set the all-time freshman mark for steals with 43 the year before. Also on that list is Wes Wardrop, who had 33 two years ago to rank third and Charles Brown sits sixth with 20 he had three years ago.IMPRESSIVE FRESHMEN Under Steve Aggers, the Lions have had some of the best freshman classes in school history. In addition to the steal records, freshmen under Aggers have put themselves in the record book 28 times. Brandon Worthy has six freshmen marks, including the most points in his first game with 24, which also ranks fifth all-time for a freshman in a single game.GERSTEN PAVILION LMU is off to a 1-0 start in Gersten Pavilion after finishing the 2003-04 season with a record of 8-6. Last season's mark was the best record at home since the 1998-99 season when they went 9-5. Opening on Jan. 15, 1981, the men's basketball team has set many records, including several national NCAA records. More memorable moments in Gersten's history include the Lions' 16-game winning streak from Feb. 28, 1987 through Nov. 28, 1988. Gersten is also the home of the all-time NCAA Division I highest scoring game, a 186-140 win by the Lions over US International on Jan. 5, 1991. The Lions are now 171-141 all-time in Gersten.OPENING TILTThe Lions' season opener against Monmouth University was the first time in 11 years they took on a team that went to the NCAA Tournament the prior year. LMU last played an opener against an NCAA tourney team when they fell to UCLA on Nov. 27, 1993 and the first win season opener win against such a team. The Lions improved to 5-0 in home openers under Head Coach Steve Aggers and 4-1 in season openers. With the win over Northern Colorado, the Lions improved to 2-3 in road openers.UNDER 60 Defense has become the Lions' trademark under Head Coach Steve Aggers. During the 2003-04 season, the Lions set an impressive mark by holding six opponents under 60 points. It was the most in any one season during the modern era of basketball, dating back more than 40 years. The last team to have more than six games holding an opponent under 60 points was the 1962-63 squad coached by John Arndt. They held teams under 60 points in seven games that season. For the Lions, the sixth game of the stretch came in a 66-48 win over Santa Clara on Feb. 12. The 48 points allowed was the fewest points since they held Saint Mary's to just 48 on Feb. 15, 1985. On Nov. 26, 1984 that same team opened the season allowing just 43 points to LA Baptist. Thanks to the 83-51 win over UNC on Nov. 24, the Lions are 14-1 in games holding opponents under 60 points during Coach Aggers tenure.FROM THREE Since the three-point field goal was introduced in the 1986-87 season, Loyola Marymount men's basketball has had just one game where they have not had a three-pointer. In the 524 games the Lions have played since the three-point line was instituted, the Lions have hit three-pointers in 521 of them. The only "miss" came on Dec. 19, 1995 when the Lions went 0-for-6 in an 82-80 win over Hawaii. That game snapped a 271 consecutive three-pointer streak for the Lions. They currently have made a three-pointer in 252 straight games heading into the game against UC Riverside.WORKING OVERTIME The Lions 84-82 double overtime win over Denver last season was the first overtime victory since an 81-79 win over Pepperdine in Malibu on Jan. 21, 1998. It was also LMU's first win in four tries under Head Coach Steve Aggers. It was the first double overtime game for LMU since a 97-94 win over Portland at Gersten Pavilion on Feb. 10, 1995. Overall LMU is 23-36 in overtime games with the first overtime game coming in the 1926-27 season against California Christian College, a 16-14 win for the Lions. The win over DU was the second consecutive overtime game for the Lions, the first-time that has happened since 1994-95. It is only the fourth time in the program's history LMU has played in back-to-back OTs (2003-04, 1994-95, 1991-92, 1980-81).- GO LIONS -Print Friendly Version var obj = {"start":0,"count":10,"name":"story-template-boilerplate","sport_id":null,"count_breakpoints":null,"css_class":"","pinned_id":"","extra":{},"context":null,"dummy":false,"type":"ads","id":"5d2e6218-a689-4dda-8383-514aaa0c1687","data":{"location":{"id":0,"title":null,"type":null,"effect":null,"fixed_image_sizes":false,"excluded_sport_ids":null,"slick":false,"dfp":false,"sidearm_dfp":false,"common_page":false,"html_template":null,"name":null,"autoplay_speed":0,"accessibility_icons":false,"sizes":null,"slick_options":null,"dfp_sizes":null},"campaigns":[],"content_id":null,"content_title":null,"content_date":null,"content_url":null,"content_image_url":null},"mode":"web"}; if (!("sidearmComponents" in window)) window.sidearmComponents = []; window.sidearmComponents.push(obj); Related Story Content var obj = {"start":0,"count":10,"name":"story-template-general-1-1","sport_id":null,"count_breakpoints":null,"css_class":"","pinned_id":"","extra":{},"context":null,"dummy":false,"type":"ads","id":"55702f2b-c27f-4d0d-93d6-ac3097bf7535","data":{"location":{"id":46,"title":"Story Templates - General 1 - Location 1","type":"dfp","effect":"none","fixed_image_sizes":true,"excluded_sport_ids":[],"slick":false,"dfp":true,"sidearm_dfp":false,"common_page":false,"html_template":null,"name":"story-template-general-1-1","autoplay_speed":8,"accessibility_icons":false,"sizes":null,"slick_options":null,"dfp_sizes":[{"id":11,"enabled":true,"breakpoint":0,"width":300,"height":250,"size_list":"","unit_name":"/29658103/sidearmextended/adaptive-1","sidearm_dfp":null}]},"campaigns":null,"content_id":"story-template-general-1-1","content_title":"story-template-general-1-1","content_date":null,"content_url":null,"content_image_url":null},"mode":"web"}; if (!("sidearmComponents" in window)) window.sidearmComponents = []; window.sidearmComponents.push(obj); Story Links Related Videos Now Playing: Play Video 2b1af7f3a8
